Keep safe on Black Friday

Cybersecurity tips for Black Friday.

It is Black Friday! Bargain shoppers’ favourite day of the year. Unfortunately, it is also cybercriminals’ favourite day of the year.

To take advantage of the amazing bargains available online, shoppers must act quickly. Cybercriminals exploit shoppers’ tendency to quickly click on bargains they see.

To protect yourself while shopping for deals, it is very important that you keep a few simple tips in mind to keep yourself safe.

1. TLS protection on websites

Ensure that the websites that you visit are secure. Look at the navigation bar on your browser and see if a padlock symbol is displayed. The padlock means the connection between your device and the website is protected with SSL / TLS encryption to prevent an attacker from snooping your data while in transit.

2. Phishing emails

Be wary of unsolicited emails from sources that are unfamiliar to you. If you receive an email with a once in a lifetime offer – think twice before clicking on the link! It is better to navigate to the website by typing their URL in your browser to ensure that you do not end up at a fraudulent website.

3. Passwords

When registering on a website to take advantage of some incredible deals, do not use the same password you use for banking or other websites like Facebook.

Use a strong and unique password for every website.

4. Do not divulge your banking or credit card PIN

Do not under any circumstance provide your banking or credit card PIN online. If you are asked for that information, you can be very sure you are dealing with a fraudulent website.

Enjoy your Black Friday shopping and keep safe!
